I finally got to see this film last night.  I wasn’t expecting to be blown away, but I’m excited about Murakami in all forms, so I tried to keep an open mind.  The film doesn’t have a whole lot of narrative structure, and I’d imagine it’d be difficult to understand without reading the book first.  Somehow, I managed to see it accompanied by four nerdy boys, all heavily familiar with this novel and ready to debate it on the street over rolled cigarettes until the cold became unbearable.  It’s a very heavy film, full of death and grief, but it’s also about growth and love and sex and I’ve been singing this song since I woke up this morning.  I’m not certain Norwegian Wood really stands on its own as a film, but it’s definitely an interesting take on the novel.
